Exhumations
Why do we exhume?
There are many reasons why a family may choose to exhume buried human remains after internment. Here at Teleshore, we understand the sensitivities around this and can help guide you through the process. Whether this be a family wanting to repatriate to another country, relocate to another area, to make space for additional family members or for legal reasons, Teleshore have the team and the expertise to assist. Teleshore can support this difficult process with respect and dignity.
What is the process?
It is an offence to disturb any buried human remains without first obtaining the necessary lawful permissions. This applies to both full coffin burials and burials of cremated remains. Before an exhumation can proceed, a licence has to be obtained from the Department of Constitutional Affairs. If the remains are in consecrated grounds, you will need to obtain permission from the church and pay any fees.An Environmental Health Officer must be present at the exhumation. They will work alongside the exhumation team to maintain and protect public health. At all times during the exhumation, our Teleshore team and Environmental Health officer will ensure that the deceased is cared for with dignity and respect.
What Happens?
The Teleshore team will liase with all parties prior to the exhumation to ensure that a start time and plan of work are agreed. It is normal practice for an environmental health officer to be present. Further ensuring the safety of everyone, the dignity of the deceased and the privacy of the wider community.
Our teams will ensure that every exhumation is treated individually, with the ultimate care, compassion and sensitivity that the deceased and their family deserve. We believe every exhumation should be as special as the person that is being exhumed. Where possible we will cater for specialist requests.
All parties will be informed through the process and the best outcome will be achieved on the day, before ensuring the site is left clean and safe for all parties to use after.
