Small gestures for big losses

October’s National Baby Loss Awareness week has seen social media fill with people’s experiences of baby loss, a humbling acknowledgement of the trauma so often hidden away in society despite impacting upon an average of 1 in 4 families.

The loss of a baby at any stage has a deep and permanent impact on a family and the grieving process is, understandably, extremely difficult.

As part of the bereavement services, it is our job to make the process of saying goodbye as sensitive to the emotions of bereaved families as we possibly can. It is in this spirit that we have worked with our clients to produce a product specifically designed to provide additional closeness and comfort to grieving parents during the funerals of lost infants.

The sight of a small coffin placed on a catafalque can be distressing for mourning parents and relatives, as they sit away from it at a short distance. To enable closeness for families, we have designed and produced a solid oak table with removable velvet cushion inlay, which can be moved into position alongside families for the service.  When the coffin is ready for committal, the coffin can be lifted by the chosen person and the cushion and coffin placed gently upon the catafalque. When not in use, the table is moved to the side and is discreet and unobtrusive.

The production of the item uses the highest quality materials and is British made in line with our commitment to sourcing British products wherever possible. The cushions can be produced in a wide range of colours.

It is a small gesture, but one which has been gratefully received by the bereaved families in crematoria in which the table has been introduced.
